Lo Wing Yin Daisy

Lo Wing Yin Daisy (b. 2002, Hong Kong) graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2024. She focuses on mixed media creation, using written words and photography to reconstruct her personal reality. By incorporating specific spaces, found objects, and sound processing, she explores the complexities of human experience. Recently, she is fascinated by the unintentional loss of emotions and memories.

Artist's Statement

I recently encountered a news article about two century-old temples in Tainan that “broke ties” due to a conflict. The article’s familiar yet absurd language prompted me to reconsider the nature of observation and expression. In my work, I seek to reassemble my impressions of Tainan and explore the concept of “blue” as a color that is invisible yet genuinely exists, akin to the idea presented by Schrödinger’s cat. To me, this paradox highlights the idea of limitations.

Creation Concept

Throughout the entire process of getting to know Tainan, I could never find a way to describe its state, because every day on my phone I received different messages, and my understanding of this place, its people, and events kept constantly changing. I started to think that perhaps in the moment of observation, we limit the occurrence of certain things. This is very similar to Schrödinger’s cat: before the box is opened, according to quantum physics, the system can be considered to be in a superposition state, where the cat is simultaneously “alive” and “dead.” This situation is normal in the quantum world, but seems absurd in the macroscopic world.

Rather than discussing the above thought experiment, I hope to present the limitations of cognition in this work through a playful approach.
